About Us

The Bessemer Industrial Development Board (IDB) is a non-profit industrial development agency works as a primary point of contact for existing, emerging and expanding businesses and industries.  The mission of the organization is to attract, retain and assist businesses involved in the light industrial, light manufacturing and wholesale/transportation industries.  The success of these businesses will then translate into a better quality of life for the citizens of Bessemer and surrounding areas.  The Industrial Development Board works closely with federal, state, local government agencies and financial institutions to provide its clients with a wide variety of services necessary to facilitate a positive businesses experience in Bessemer.

 

The IDB provides or is involved in other organizations and activities that assist in the overall economic development of the City of Bessemer; those organizations and activities include the Bessemer Business Incubation System, City of Bessemer Community and Economic Development Office, tax abatement packages, custom property development, etc.

 

About Us – Location

The City of Bessemer is located 15 miles southwest of Birmingham, Alabama’s city center.  The city is also 35 miles northeast of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  Bessemer, Alabama is part of the Birmingham-Hoover metropolitan statistical area which comprises seven (7) counties in North Central Alabama.  The MSA has a population of 1.1 million people.  The City of Bessemer’s location within the MSA provides easy and quick access to three (3) hospital systems (Baptist, St. Vincent’s and UAB) and eight major colleges, universities and vocational schools.
